INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FRATERNITY BERKELEY ALUMNI CHAPTER
March, 2010
Dear Berkeley Mu Phi Friends,
Our February meeting at Minda’s house was delightful with a varied music program – Minda helped us celebrate Chopin’s 200th birthday with his impressive Scherzo, Carol gave us a taste of Christmas in Hawaii, and Sue pinch-hit with a mini-suite of pieces for solo flute, including a groovin' Rhumba by Castérède (you go girl!). Yummy refreshments were provided by Minda, Suzanne and Helen. Thanks to Lenora for filling in as Recording Secretary for Norma who had a conflict and couldn’t attend the meeting. Nine members and two guests were present.
Our March meeting will be on Sunday, March 14, 2:30 p.m., at Sheila's home– see details below. Co-hostesses are Norma and Carol. For the musical program, Norman and Sheila will continue their survey of the Beethoven Violin Sonatas with Number 8, and Sheila will also perform Debussy Preludes for solo piano (see details below). The short business meeting will include the election of officers to serve in 2010-2011. There will also be a report on our triennial Young Artist Competition. VERY IMPORTANT – Sheila asks that you please RSVP. She really wants to know how many chairs to set up, so PLEASE help her by being considerate and RSVPing. Thank you in advance for making the job of hostess and performer less hectic.
Young Artist Competition – We still need ONE volunteer to help out with the day of the competition – Saturday, March 6 – 12:30 to 4:30 pm at the Berkeley Piano Club. If you are interested and available, please contact Sue by replying to this e-mail or phoning (925)829-4922. It is a great opportunity to hear some terrific young musicians and get a feel for what is happening with tomorrow’s artists. Seven singers and five pianists will perform for us. Judges are Joellen P., Janet H., and Nancy A.. The winners will perform at Rossmoor in April.
Nominating Committee – Lenora did a great job as chair of this very important committee, and we are happy to report that everyone she contacted said “YES!” Here is your slate of officers for 2010-2011:
President – Susan
Historian – Carol T
Vice President – Gina
Chorister – Gina
Treasurer – Carol T
Chaplain – Suzanne
Recording Secretary – Lenora
Steward – Marcia
